While our sweet spot has always been in pre-owned hardware, Curvature’s fundamental goal has always been in providing customers with the best options for their Data Centers every day. Curvature’s Senior Solutions Architect has compiled his recommendations for the top 10 products you should buy new.
1. ASA5500X Series with Firepower
This family of products incorporates Sourcefire’s FirePOWER technology into Cisco’s ASA platform to enable true next generation firewall capabilities, including application visibility control (AVC), intrusion prevention system (IPS), and advanced malware protection (AMP).
2. Cisco 10 Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Module
With 10 gigabit Ethernet becoming a mainstream product, demand for 10 gigabit optics of all types is expected to continue to increase. Curvature has offerings for all 10 gigabit optics types, including the very popular SFP+ form factor.
3. Arista Networks Datacenter Switches
Arista’s hardware is a broad range of 10, 40, and 100 gigabit switching products, but their highly resilient EOS operating system sets them apart, with multiple options for configuration and custom functionality for specialty applications.
4. HP BL460 Gen9 Blades
A significant advancement in capability for HP’s blade chassis lineup, the BL460 Gen9 supports Intel’s Xeon E52600v3 CPUs, for memory-hungry applications such as virtualization. On the networking side, the BL460 Gen9 supports HPs’ FlexFabric network adapters, with a standard 10Gbps option, or an HP-specific 20Gbps adapter for environments that demand the highest networking performance.
5. Cisco 802.11ac Wave 2 Access Points
The big news in wireless for 2015 is the introduction of 802.11ac Wave 2 technology, designed to address performance and capacity needs associated with proliferating wireless devices and the need for access those devices require. Features like beamforming and multi-user MIMO also aid in being able to have a much higher client density per AP compared to previous wireless technologies.
6. Dell Poweredge R630 Servers
Dell’s Poweredge R630 rack servers bring a substantial increase in performance to the 1RU rack server market compared to previous generations, and will be a strong product for Curvature in 2015. As more applications are moved from the desktop to the datacenter, server performance becomes much more important, and the R630 has the capabilities to deliver this performance.
7. Cisco Catalyst 3850-X Switches
With options for either 24 ports of NBase-T or 12 ports of NBase-T and 32 gigabit ports, the 3850-X switches deliver the same robust feature set as the rest of the 3850 line and can stack with existing 3850s, but now with much improved throughput, making these switches a very strong complement to current and future high performance wireless deployments.
8. Cisco ISR 4000 Series Routers
These days, many enterprises expect much more out of a router than basic networking capability. The ISR 4400 provides a separate control and data plane, allowing a much more predictable level of performance, by offloading forwarding tasks to dedicated hardware.
9. Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches
Designed to work tightly with Cisco’s ACI software suite, this suite addresses large datacenters’ requirements for low latency and high port count—from the small, fixed-interface Nexus 9300 to the high-capacity 9500 chassis.
10. Dell EqualLogic PS6200 Series
Solid state disks (SSDs) have become mainstream enterprise storage technology in 2015, and Dell’s new PS6200 series introduces both hybrid and all-SSD options to the EqualLogic line. The software’s intelligent tiering ensures that frequently-accessed data stays on the SSDs, while less-accessed data is retired to the hard drives.
